The "belief" is the "parents" choice, not a caregiver or the government.

Pay attention to what your children are hearing/saying. You go from there.

I am Santa, at least to a 4yr. old granddaughter.

Right now she is expecting a phone call to reassure her that she is not on the naughty list. Her Mother told her Santa was putting her on the naughty list for numerous little kid transgressions.

When I was young, my kid brother had to be on the naughty list in bold print one year . . . he made out like a bandit !!!!

I would be pissed at that driver too and would surely have a talk with his boss.

Smoe, please tell me what day care that is so I can go punch the driver in the nose. Poor little fella. That just really steams me. I'm truly stunned that anyone could be that insensitive. What a bonehead. I'm with Art all the way when it comes to Christmas and Santy (not when it comes to sanity though; he knows nothing about that ). Gracie knows the true meaning of Christmas, but there's still room in her heart for Santa (along with Peter Cottontail and the Tooth Fairy). She's ten. Some of her classmates still believe and some of them don't. The ones who don't are very vocal about it, but it's water off a duck's back to her because she has a mind of her own and is very deliberate. She'll believe until she doesn't want to any more, and the admiral and I are in agreement that we'll let it play out that way and enjoy it while we can. As for your little man, you didn't ask, but I'm willing to bet you can find a way to reverse the damage if you're so inclined. Won't be hard unless he's ready to stop believing anyway. Good luck.

My daughter found out there was no Santa from a kid at school, I forget at what age(she wasn't real young). She came to us to verify what she heard. We had to tell her it was true. Then she asked, "I suppose there's no tooth fairy either?". When we told her, she said "What!!!". She was crushed. No Santa or tooth fairy all in the same day!

Eerily familiar....
My older daughter, then a 6 YO, got the triple-whammy all in one shot. She came home from school asking her Mum about Santa because a couple of kids at school were saying that Santa was not real ...etc. etc.
Mum figured that honesty was the best policy (but has regretted it ever since) and explained.
Unfortunately the little wheels started turning and... “Mum, so what about the Easter Bunny?”....and then “Mum what about the Tooth Fairy?”....oh oh, Zero-for three! :facepalm:
When I got home from work the poor little thing was a wreck....and no better the next morning.
I didn’t want her going to school in that state so took the morning off work, made some popcorn, and the two of us watched my tape of Miracle on 34th Street....the original B&W version.
The red eyes were quuickly replaced by an ear to ear grin, and when the movie ended, she gave me a big hug and said “I get it Dad. Santa is inside all of us. That was the best movie I’ve ever seen.”
I dropped her at school on my way back to work and she was fine.

Since then, it is not Christmas until the two of us sit down and watch it. That never gets old even 15 years on.

my kids played along until the early teens.....then i was told ....we knew there was no santa when we were 8ish....we just went with it because you (me) seemed to be having so much fun with the xmas stuff. :facepalm:

All I know is that my life was a lot different when I believed in Santa from when I BECAME Santa...!

Both were wonderful in their own ways.

Santa brought my first electric train - a Lionel, 027 gauge. What a wonderful time I had with that. Even my father, a rather stern man, had a good time playing with it...!

Some of the best times of my life occurred when I could replicate that experience with my son and daughters. The next morning - the cookie crumbs and half glass of milk on the kitchen table - and the excitement when they scrambled through the presents under the tree, each looking for his/her name on the tags...

God, I wish I could do all that again...!

We extended the doubting period by a year or so when they started asking questions one year, we made plans to go to grandmas house on christmas eve. while we were gone we had the neighbors turn on all the lights and put all the presents under the tree. well mom and dad were with us all night who else but santa would of done that. it worked for awhile anyway.
