Re: How to anchor ?

I'm not a toon guy and know little about them, but it seems to me that some folks are making this out to be harder than it needs to be.

How about this?

Make a bridle, so that the anchor line terminates at the boat in a "Y." Make the legs of the Y equal in length and fasten them to the boat at the pontoons. Make the Y portion long enough to be pulled back into the boat from one side, or via a short line attached to the middle, the other end of which remains on deck.

???

Very good idea!

That sounds good except My boat comes all the want up to the end of the toons front and rear. can't reach the hooks on the toons in the back no space and only about 4 inches in the front.

Well, I already suggested that but it's good advice. The bridle is a little less convenient to use than a proper, centered anchor cleat or centered chocks with a cleat off to one side.

Centered cleat won't work for me b/c of the stop pad on the front of the trailer. I don't want to put it through the deck and create a trip hazard. I guess I could put it in upside down but then it will become a pita to use.

A search here will find a guy who put a square U-bolt flush with the deck.

I've got those on my truck. Problem is, when you need them they arn't flush anymore. I'm liking the bridle idea here, a lot! I can put a few eyes on it and hang my bait bucket from it, fish cage, floating cooler, or floats when we're anchored.

The difference (in use) between a bridle, "U" bolt, etc., is that with a cleat, you just wrap the anchor rode around it at any appropriate length and when you're ready to leave, it easily unwraps. With a bridle or U boly, you have to tie a knot. A knot which may become tight under strain and be difficult to untie.

In the end, of course, it's your boat so you do what you feel is best. It just a good idea to be able to consider all the options.
