Yamahas have some pretty basic LU's. Most water pump, impeller re-placements are done with the unit in neutral. Nothing to disconnect for the shift rod either as I remember. Now seems like a really good time to buy that manual you have been thinking about getting.....;)

Thanks for the input. I dropped the L.U. yesterday and inspected water pump impeller (vanes slightly worn) other gaskets looked good.

The issue is that had good water flow from pee hole, then went to dribble. I have blown through water tube out through pee hole to ensure no blockage. Do you think I should replace the impeller? Or is there some other gasket or grommet that I should replace? I wonder about the rubber grommet on the powerhead not sealing properly - How do you check?

Since you have it apart, spend the $20 and get a new impeller. Or see if there is any warpage of the plastic housing or scoring on the stainless plate and buy the complete kit. How long has it been since a complete kit? You can usually go 300 hrs on the impeller itslf. Alos, if there are any other seals leaking your lower unit oil will be milky. You need to be changing that oil now anyway. You do know that after removing bother screws to drain, you refill it from the bottom. Use a pump or squeeze the jug with the tip pressed hard against the hole until oil comes out the top. Any good 80 - 90 wt gear oil works.
