OK, I know I could pull the engine and remove the oil pan, But that would require alot of work and with all of you guys knowledge, lets see if you can come up with a solution that let's say, IS EASY for lazy people.
The engine is a 1974 mercruiser inline straight six, 165 h.p,
I won't bore you with a long story about how and why I think I need to do it,
but here's the short version, while on my way to go fishing, the engine temp guage rose to about 190 degrees and at the same time I lost all oil pressure and had to get towed in, since then I've run the engine several times for about 20 mins. and no problem, maybe there's debris in the pan which takes longer than 20 mins. to clog the oil pump screen, so how would clean the oil pan and pump screen without removing the engine??? huh???
please start with after draining the oil, ok ?

Ayuh,.... You'd Pull the motor, mount it to a Stand, Flip it Over,+ Go for it....

But,...
I'd Fix the Overheat Issue 1st,...

Hot oil will bring the pressure Down....

With all our knowledge, we have found you have to pull the engine to do that job.
Or cut the bottom out of the boat.
Your choice.

Is the oil in the crankcase still clean or is it a milkshake ?
Do you have a good oil pressure gauge on the engine.
I'm changing my 165hp MerCruiser right now, its really easy if you have changed car engines before. As always straight sixes are a pleasure to work on.
