how to connect the speedometer in Yamahas 250HP /2002 two stroke ?

hi, I just got a boat whit two yamahas /2002, two stroke ,saltwater series that for some reason the speedometer doesn't work I can check the speed via the GPS but I would like to reconnect the speedometer back , the previus owner toll me that it was disconnected , but it has the cable attached to the speedometer gauge . it's in the motor where i have to check ?, if yes ,where exatly?..thanks

somewhere on the stbd engine, there is a small gray tube that goes up from the gearcase to the powerhed. it slips up just beside the shift shaft.<br /> as its discconected there is no telling where the tube is now.<br />its a small rubber line that looks like a vacum hose.<br /> you will find the system works better taking speed inputs from the GPS.
