They are typically screwed into the floor, unless they are glassed into the floor.

Especially if the hull is a deep Vee, there is a danger of going right through the hull if you screw too far from the center of the hull. It is much better to glass in a 2 x2 gusset to the floor either side to side or front to back of the seats and screw the seats into it.

If the jump seats are set in a fiberglass pocket, use Velcro.

When I rebuilt the seat boxes on my small 15 footer so I could fit six gallon tanks inside, I glassed the boxes to the floor and carpeted around them.

Do you have seats now and how are they fastened?

Mine were screwed down,I like the velcro idea, easy to remove and clean the boat up. It was always harder to clean between the seat and gunnel on mine. New seats orderd.

So I'm getting that they are going to be screwed down. I would like to somehow be able to remove them but I'm not sure if the velcro will be strong enough.

Order the industrial strength velcro from a reputable company like 3M, then bond or staple it onto correctly prepared surfaces. It is incredibly strong, we use it frequently for interior trim and access panels in aerospace applications.

I glassed in supports directly to the uncarpeted, fiberglass deck on my 15' Yarcraft. used stainless steel t-nuts on the boards, screwed in the bolts, PL'ed the boards to the floor to seat them, then glassed the supports into the floor with mat and resin. When it all dried, I undid the bolts and ground off any excess glass on the nuts. Once painted (I painted the entire deck instead of using carpet) I drilled through the base on the seats and then ran the bolts through the seat supports into the t-nuts. It allowed me to take the seats off whenever I wanted which came in handy when I had to replace one of my seats a couple of years later. Just became a matter of drilling matching holes on the new seat base, and bolting in the new one.

Screw cleats to the floor, and then screw the seat boxes to the cleats.
