I've gotten this MFG Challenger boat and the serial number is rubbed off. How many numbers are in the serial number? I also need help figuring out how to register it without any information. I live in Eastern shore, Virginia

I have no idea what the registration procedure is in Virginia. In most states what you have described would be a nightmare. My suggestion would be to go to the Virginia DMV and ask them directly. They should be able to tell you if it is possible and what hoops you will need to jump through.

I am sorry I cannot help you more.

If this were NY. It would probably be easiest to register it as a home made boat. Without a legible serial number there’s no real way to recover what it was

In some states, you probably can't register it

As stated above. Go to the West VA DMV in person, and ask

That's not fair Joe, we all would benefit from your advice
What i do is generally accepted as not legal in the strictest sense. It has worked several and every time. I have a couple standards before accepting the assignments to ensure i am not being complicit in some bs.

I have references here, will not ask to post here but will offer thru pms

State laws are stupid.

Here in TN it's pretty easy, you just need a bill of sale and previous owners registration. No registration for the trailer at all.

No, I've always had the bill of sale and the previous owners registration card. If it has no numbers I guess you could get an affidavit signed by the seller and yourself notarized. but I don't know for certain..

You have a lot more experience than I, I've sold 2 and bought 1 but in reality 1 was given away and the other cost a dollar.

Your safest bet is to go directly to the local office that handles this, actually go to two different ones and see if you get the same instructions !! Situations like these are often up for interpretation, that is why you should get two opinions from two different offices.

Been there done that. In MY case I really DID build the boat. I had to show proof of receipts for wood, marine screws, marine glue, etc., etc. I DID get her done but not without a lot of whaling and moaning.
