I am trying to change the trim and tilt assembly on a 225 Hp Yamaha, I think it is a 2001. I removed all the mounting bolts that mount to the transom bracket and it will not pass out past the transom bracket. The assembly is loose and seems like it is ready to come out.

I believe on the larger motors like yours it requires one of the transom brackets to be removed while supporting the motor with a lift of some kind.

I loosened up the pivot tube nuts. From what I can see I should be able to take one side of the transom bracket and spin it till I can slide the assembly out. It seems that the bracket is frozen and not turn. I don't know how much preasure to put on it.

Are you supporting the motor with something ?
If not it may have too much pressure on it, putting it in a bind.

I still have it mounted on the starboard side of the bracket and tried swinging up the port side bracket. Are you saying to take the engine off the transom?

I am saying to support the motor with a motor lift to take the weight off of the brackets.

I have not done this job before on a large motor and this is just my opinion.
Search the forums for what others have done.

normally on the 3.1L motors remove all 8 bolts, loosen the manual release valve, remove the tilt ram pin, push the tilt ram down and you can work it up and out without removing brakets.

I got the unit out. I needed to lift the motor a little and pull a little harder on the bracket and it came right out. Thanks 99yam40 and rodbolt.
