I just picked up a shamrock with a 2009 Mercruser Black Scorpion 350.

Figured I'd change the impeller just to be sure.

Darn it is tight in there. I have to remove the fuel pump and filter to get to the water pump. But I can't seem to find any way to loosen the belt to get it off.

Try putting a wrench on the pulley, and by turning the wrench the pulley should be spring loaded and take the tension off the belt allowing it to slip off.not sure which pulley though you have to look at it.

I'm pretty sure that upper starboard side pulley provides the tension. The bolt that holds it in place has a gear on the backside and it meshes with a toothed rack on the mount. The other end (threaded end) of the bolt has a hex (5/16" if memory serves) forged into the end of it. Loosen the nut by the pulley bearing and the bolt will turn relieving tension.

Thank you.

I thought that may be it but wasn't sure how to get it to move down.

Here is a pic of the back of it in case anyone is interested.

The Shamrocks are considered the same over here on the east coast as well, though I haven't seen one around in a while!

loosen the 5/8 bolt on the pulley and turn the 5/16 hex nut.
