How would you remove the lower unit on a 1961 Johnson 75 Seahorse
V4AL-14L nonelectric shift. Unless someone has a PDF file that would help me out. I've started pulling it off but their is something stopping me from pulling the shift out of the motor. I don't want to break any more then I have too. Thank you for everyones help forums or a great tool.

Did you disconnect the shift rod? The coupler is under the little oval plate on the leg. Remove the plate to get to the coupler and completely remove the lower bolt. Lower unit should then drop.

What is the leg? I know there are like three parts. Starting from the bottom is it the first second or third. Thank you for your help.

What ever your trying to do, you are probably going to need a manual. Getting something apart is easy, my kids' used to do it all the time. Getting it back together is where the trouble starts.

I have a non-factory service manual that covers 50-85HP OMC V4's built from 1958-1968. You are welcome to a free copy if interested. Send me your email address in a Private Message and I will reply with it attached since the iboats.com forum does not support attachments. Good luck!
