AAK!!! Don't use wd-40 or any other silicone based product unless you want fish eyes in your beautiful finished product. You can't take a can of that near any paint shop. Learned that one the hard way. Lots of good info though.

Concure, don't use any oil type products, you are just asking for trouble if you do.

Stickers stick, it is their job, best way to get them off is a heat gun and use laquer thinner to get the goo off, the heat releases the vinyln from the glue.

The goo removal is slow process, I recommend you clean out your closet and get rid of all the shirts you don't use, you will need them for goo removal.

Be really carefull with the razor that you don't dig into the finish, feathering scratches takes awhile.

The tip I forgot to give yesterday, if you can feel it with your fingers you can see it ten times worse, if you can feel an imperfection with your hand even the slightest bit it will show though the paint really bad.

Painting is a slow deliberate proccess, that is why it costs so much to have done, take your time and enjoy the work and it will look great when you are done.

Thanks Guys,

I have a spot about midway on the Port side below the rubrail that is about 5" round.
It's some nasty scratches. Looks like the last owner rubbed something pretty hard. It;s just on the surface though.

I work for a Auto dealer and the recon guy in the back is letting borrow his heat gun. I have a box of plastic razor blades too!

Plastic razors are safer as far as digging in. I usually use a rotory eraser. Its from 3m and I can't remember the actual name. They make a special tool for it. The tool is similar to a die grinder, but spins a little slower. I usually just chuck it in a drill and go. It works great and doesn't involve any chemicals, but you should still wipe a grease and wax remover over the cleaned surface.
A side note on prepping for your paint job: Don't drag it out too long. I've had some high quality tapes that were a nightmare to remove because I left it on way too long.

Excellent point! This is extremely important if you burnish your tape. It needs to come of just as soon as the paint hits the hard tack stage of the final coat. This is usually the same amount of time that the manufacturer recommends you wait between coats. If you won't be able to get the next coat on for a while, pull the tape and retape it when you're ready.

That brings up another point - Check with the paint manufacturer as to the minimum and maximum amount of time between coats. This is critical for your planning.
