so i removed the top cover to work on the carbs and apparently when i put it back on it wasnt right because when i started it with the electric start i jerked the rope in and ripped the rope and now when its running it just feeds it back out i messed that one up

First you will need to remove the cover , You next take the entire recoil system apart to inspect it for damage and lay it out so you can put it back together. You also need to understand how to set the spring tension once you replace the rope. Once back together the rope needs to work and the catch paws need to come out before you put it back on the engine. A diagram will help and you can find one on the net. You also need to find out just HOW you put it back on "wrong" so you wont repeat the mistake. You can do it but its not a 10 minute job if you have never done it before.
