Hows the water coming in?

Re: Hows the water coming in?

Yea I'll tell you, why in the hell would they put holes in the cupholders so it could drain in the compartments. How dumb is that. And why would they put cupholders on a fishing boat period. :)

I've already drilled 2 - 1/2" holes on each side to air it out. Guess I'm going to go bigger and drill 1" or 1 1/2" hole on the bottom of the compartment so I could drain it better and as you say put my wet vacc. on it.

Question: Can I use automotive silicone to seal that split seam? Have tons of that stuff.

And as far as those dam drain holes on the cupholders I plan on sealing those holes. And installing a plastic housing in it. so if it rains I can just dump the plastic instead of removing the holder. ;)

I wouldn't use the auto silicone unless it is meant to see weather and sun (UV). The best sealant would be 3M 5200.

Some high end boats I've seen have tubes on the bottom of the cupholders that drain water into an area that can drain overboard.

The silicone is a RTV type even the marine stores sell them. Its waterproof flexible and the location of the repair wont be seen.
But I did buy yesterday a tube of that 3m 5200 which i was going to use on other small tasks. That I know it can handle the abuse of weather, etc. Now i'm thinking about checking every srew, nut, bolt thats exposed to see if its well sealed.
