HP vs Boat Ratings

I have a 65 or so 14' Alumicraft rated 22-28hp is it safe to put a modern 25HP motor on it ?

Yes, Nuboat.<br /><br />The 28s in 1965 were rated at the flywheel and probably put 25hp to the prop. A modern 25 should do just fine.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

I don't think the coast guard has changed the way they give HP capacity ratings to boats and I doubt manufacturers have either. I thought that one of the reasons that some motor makers changed to the prop shaft was to allow a more powerful motor on the boat. I believe Suzuki was one of the first, so they were probably just trying to get a leg up on the market, but everyone else (except Force) followed to keep up.
