I've got the hub and cable steering on my glastron and i bought 50 ft of cable for it.
Its a

1968 Glastron V147 Fish n Ski.. I'm not sure how long the other cable was because its rusted to pieces in places.. but i should have some left..

Any idea how much i'll need?

That's some pretty high tek drawings there TD, schooled me on how it works. :D If ya fall out in a corner the boat just drives away instead of doing laps trying to run you over. One question though, in the picture of the spool both ends of the cable look to be coming off at the same place, shouldn't they be coming off ,one at the top and one at the bottom, or is it just an optical illusion?

Re: Hub Steering

no, the both come of the same side, usually the top.. it is a spiral grooved barrel hub. they both feed out from the outside of the hub, to center of the drum, never get crossed, unless the spring tension gets loose.

this was taken with me scrunched under console. so it is deceiving.

theres a good post on it..

starboard side cable still needing to be tended to, wrap this cable COUNTER CLOCKWISE in the groove closest to you as you look at the hub from the back of the dash. This cable will also come off the TOP of the hub, but will be led down the starboard side of the boat

so the other side would be oppostie..

i'll probally do that sunday so i've still got some reading time..

Re: Hub Steering

it will work. i used coated. when running the cables on the same side of the boat, one cable comes off the top of the drum, the other off the bottom. the top cable goes to the starboard side on the motor, the bottom goes to the port side. just like the drawing. do not let the cables get crossed.

Re: Hub Steering

One other option for you....although less practical on a runabout involves a bar on the front of the motor.
