Anyone ever built their own? I need to be able to use 2 transducers on one head unit..but I cant see paying the cost of ANOTHER transducer for a simple switch!!!

Not such a simple switch, Dennis. Xducer cable is coaxial.

Not only must the switch switch the signal, it must also switch the shield and maintain the shielding.

Re: Humminbird transducer switch?

Exactly correct, I had envisioned using a (slightly modified) shielded coaxial switch that I happen to have laying around, one of my past hobbies was as a HAM radio operator. So I still have the odd piece here and there laying around. What I didn't know was if there was any circuitry inside the switchbox. I was hoping someone here and experimented a bit before I dove in to this.

Thanks!

Dunno about H'bird Xducers, Dennis, but I doubt that there are extra signals. . . unless there is a temp sensor or speed paddle involved.

My Lowrance and Eagle Xducers are either single lead coax or twin lead for the temp sensor.

Good luck. :)

Not sure about Hummingbird but Garmin, Furuno and the Lowrance unit's (7 pin connectors)I'm familar with don't use coax cable. They use either a 2 or 3 pair sheilded cable. If this is the case just strip back the shielding and you’ll have discreet wires to work with. Tie the shields from both ends of the cable together at the switch.

Why don't you just buy one? Humminbird sells them seperately and the switch is fairly inexpensive.

Re: Humminbird transducer switch?

What Humminbird Head Unit with what transducers, and what are planned useage of them? There are cable options that might work over using a switch. If switch is the right answer, recommend just purchasing vs moding two transducers.

H'bird has many transducers. single, dual, 3-beam, quad, SI, Wide Side, w/temp, etc.
