Re: Hunt Guides

Dont try to get all fancy Carppy, Just go out with the guy and hunt like you always do. The only diff being that the client will blast the bird instead of you. Besides its the guy that calls the turkey that kills em, not the guy that shoots em.

Re: Hunt Guides

Carpy, I'm not much of a turkey hunter (yet) but I have taken a dozen guided waterfowl hunting trips. If your "sports" are working men they will love you if they have fun. To me , that means seeing game, having the guide share calling tactics, seeing new country, and most of the time meeting the guidesa at the local watering hole to shoot the bull and swap lies. Involve them in the hunt, ask them what they think and tell them what you're doing, why and whether it has worked before. As I am not a rich guy I can't give you much advice if those are your clients.

Re: Hunt Guides

after some more thought, maybe you should just
simply ask them in advance and have an easy hunt
and a hardnose hunt planned out for either
scenario.

Carphunter :)

Being the hunter that you are and the expertise that you have you should have no problem being a guide. if you feel that you tried your best to get the "sport" his game I think that's all that counts.
Your right about dragging out that deer. Once it is down the work begins, over blow downs; up & down hills etc:

A little more speed and little more flatter trejectory
Will never go back to aluminum.
Always hunted with fixed broadheads.
Saw a program about exspandables and it wasn't to encouraging with the out come. Some claim that they don't always open etc:
I really don't know I'm sure some people love them.

Re: Hunt Guides

Never been guided. I think the most important aspeck, is to be able to "read" what type of person you are dealing with and adjust the hunt to suit them. So ask a lot of questions. The personality and physical shape of your client is going to determine what type of hunt and what you should/can say. Personally I whould look at it as a for profit business and do whatever it takes to please my customer without compromising laws, my ethics or morality. You can't please everyone but your humorous type of personality will cover a lot of the down time in between the action. A humorous teacher is how I picture you as a guide. Don't sweat the a-holes. Happy hunting. P.S. might want to make a little kit of things your clients might not have or forgot, disposable camera, chem. warmers, camo hood, gloves, tape, cushion, calls ...

Re: Hunt Guides

Great advice fellas, thanks. :)

I've got about a month and a half to learn the lay of the land, since I have not hunted this area before.

I'm really excited about this. I think it would be too cool to guide someone to their first turkey.

I've got about two more years before my oldest boy is ready to go with me, so this will be good practice. ;)

Thanks again fellas, I will be using much of your advice.
