So, I bought a Bimini top at Boat/US today. After installing it, I read the bottom of the directions, and it says not to use the dang thing over 10mph! I kind of bought a top so I could have it up while cruising around, not to just sit there.

So, my question is, are the Hurricane biminis sold here on the iboats megamall able to withstand cruising around? I'm not expecting a full throttle durability here, but at least 25mph or so. And how is that "Sharkskin" fabric they have?

You're not that guy in the thread below with the pontoon and twin 300's, are you? :)

Re: Hurricane Bimini tops

I bought mine from Overtons this spring, but it's the same product Iboats has, I do believe. It's a very tall, blue Sharkskin top. I absolutely love it, it is up 100% of the time while I'm on the water as I frankly hate baking in the sun, and I run it at 35 to 40 mph all the time. Barely even flaps in the wind once you get it situated at the correct angle (just put it up...if it parachutes while you're planed out, you need to tip it forward, if it depresses, you need to tip it back) and keep the angled straps nice and tight so it doesn't swing, sway and flap. Run it, it'll do just fine.

The fabric is great, I think the Sharkskin is the best choice...light weight, dries instantly, very tough, hasn't faded a bit. I'd buy the exact same product again in a heartbeat.

I put a Hurricane bimini with white vinyl on my bass boat. Ran mid 40's with no problems. Have a Sunbrella on my TahoeQ4. Says not to exceed 30mph but I've been 35 with no problem. It's mostly the angle and strap tension. I would recommend installing with slides so it can be positioned out of the way when not in use and keep the hardware from rubbing on the boat.
