Hurricane prep

Any suggestions on securing a boat for a hurricane. i have it on a trailer and have access to a secured storage lot. How to secure if from blowing off? Water damage etc? Any suggestions on anything would be appreciated.

Been said here before (I can't remember who to give credit too) ..<br />Leave the cover off and fill it with about 6 inches of water( inboards could be a problem with soaked starters/etc though)...it aint going anywhere. Drain after the storm and the sun will take care of the rest. Good luck!

I have also seen postings that warn against that. If you leave the plug in the rain will fill up the boat even more and flood the engine compartment.<br /><br />Not my posting, but I have read it here.<br /><br />From what I have read people reccomend tying it down to anchors you put in the ground.<br /><br />Again, just what I have read.

ground anchors, thats the method we used at lake powell when we rented a houseboat. It is a standard practice on account of the high winds and large profile of the houseboats. dig a hole/s and bury the anchor/s. suprised me! worked well....in the sand on the beach!!sl<br /><br />don't tie it to your roof or a cow

Do not leave the drain plug in. With it in, 5 to 10 inches of rain and you will have the coolest looking (full) fiberglass bathtub on wheels in the state.

I meant that it would be checked, as he said secure storage. And not too many tops or covers last in 100mph winds anyway.. (another reason I live in Puget Sound...we don't have those problems)

I have strapped it onto the trailer with lots of straps and secured the trailer to my 4Runner. Put a BIG tarp on it with about 20 bungies also. I'll see how it fares. Thanks for the input everybody.

Don't leave the bungee cords hooks so they will come in contact with the hull. When the wind blows they will move around and scratch it. Even the plastic ones will mar the hull.

Just back from 36 hours without electricity (and A/C; BRUTAL) The boat fared well with what little hurricane prep I could do. No scratches and no massive water in the boat, HOORAY!!!<br />Thanks for the tips everybody. After the hurricane clean-up she goes in the water!
