Hello all, I have a 96 Cajun with a 115 HP Johnson that tops out at 37 mph with 4 people, fuel & gear. I am thinking about adding a hydraulic jack plate to gain a little more top end speed and I have a few questions. First, is it difficult to install it myself? Second, will it really give me more top end speed? If so, how much more?Third, what brand is the best to buy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Hydraulic Jack Plate Install

JV, The Jackplate should install in the same mounting holes as your motor. You motor should install in the pre-drilled mounting holes on the jackplate. You should only need a lift for the motor, some silicone and a set of bolts. Is your steering cable long enough? Ditto on the control cables, fuel line and electrics.

You might like to raise the motor up on the transom as a test before buying the jackplate. See if you get additional speed and/or RPM.

Watch out to assure the motor pumps enough water in the raised position. Most folks use a water pressure guage to monitor the water pickups.
