Hey everyone. So I decided to try to see if I can get my pump to work and raise and lower the out drive but now luck :( nothing at all. No noise. Nothing :(. I checked for 12 volts on the positive side and yes it's there. The sensor wires were badly damaged so I unhooked them and joined the two together (like I saw from another post). Still nothing from the switches. I have 12 volts up at the switches but they do nothing. Is there a way to "jump wires" at the pump to see if I can get to work? Or could you guys help me with some troubleshooting tips?

Thanks a bunch

you need both a positive and a negative wire to make things work.voltage is good but current makes things work. Test again using a spotlight or large bulb.
take 2 jumpers from the + and - battery post.
connect negative to the housing frame. and retest
connect + to main buss across the solenoids, retest
place +12 wire to the blue(up) motor wire and then the green(down) motor lead
Report findings

Fixed now, Left this thread active since it's electrical parts specific to a Mercruiser, deleted the other.

Sorry to ask a dumb question. Where is the second solonoid? I see the one on the front of the unit.

If you mean your signiture line there isnt a second one. The up circuit requires a solenoid because of the current draw to raise the rive. Going down does not use that moch current so its hard wired to the switch. Do the testing in my post and report your findings.
A small error in the print ,there is a blue wire from the block `s blue wire to the small lug of the solenoid.

You probably only have one relay which is double acting. See page 2 or 534 in the link in post 3

Well started looking around at the wiring on the switches. These old switches are toast... They are all green and the rubber is dry and no spring back at all... I want to replace them with something newer....

Can you guys suggest what switch would be a good replacement? Once I get this hooked up and finish checking all the wiring I hope to make the pump work again. I did find another pump assembly online for $50.00 and it works good so it will be nice to have a backup one. Also it gives me something to tinker with in the offseason.

Thanks!

I'm guessing you have the rectangular style panel mount with 3 switches. Other then trying to find one on ebay or the like, you would need to do some rewiring. Then I would suggest either one like part number 78408A 5 in the link below
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-MerCruiser-Mercury-Power-Trim-Control-78408A-5-/350893721691

Change out throttle control handle with trim buttons

Other then that, you could get the outboard add on trim switches, but this would have no up limit

Or a single pole Momentary on/off/ momentary on rocker panel switch.

Yep it is the old panel mount style.. I'm not too bad with wiring so I could rig something up? Shouldn't be too hard no?

Will be a piece of cake, can hook it up old style with BT post above. If you change the pump out to new style (2 relays) that's also easy.

No pump? Do you have a model or part number?

I think I'm gonna try new switches first. See how that goes. Since I have to pumps now I'm sure I can get one to work and maybe rebuild the other one for a just incase unit

Thanks a bunch! Great Help and support on this forum! Will keep you all updated. A buddy is coming down for the day on Saturday to help me get this thing re wired and fixed up electrical wise. I'm hoping to replace the impeller since the boat sat for 7 years. Don't even want to think about firing it up till all the fluids are changed and things are cleaned up.

Thanks again everyone!

Well a great day yesterday working on the boat!!! Thanks everyone here for all the help :)

Did all our wire testing with a new switch. Found out it is bad switches, bad solenoid, and bad motor on the pump :( but that's ok, I picked up a used on online and swapped it out with a new switch and away she ran :) A awesome day yesterday working on the boat. I think I am going to tear the old one apart over the winter and rebuild it so I have a backup.

Again a big thanks to everyone here for all the help!!!
