I have a 14ft flatbottom with 9.9hp merc110 And i run into a problom at times of it not getting on plane and the prop gets washed out and boat slows down and engine revs what is the better choice to use?

Need to look at the set-up closely. Where the motor is in relation to the hull..... Where is the anti-ventilation plate ?cavatation plate in relation to the keel?

It sounds more like the motor is not set up right........... what length shaft and what is the transom measurement.

I would do that before you spend a penny on anything.

In otherwords, if possible, post up a sideview pic of the transom so we can see the motor in relation to the hull. Sounds like the motor is sitting too high...:)

I was given a hydrofoil from my step father to try out since he had a extra so i put it on yesterday i will try to take a picture tommorow of a side view but thinking off hand the cavitation plate is close to being at least 12 inch below the boat

ok..i kinda feel embarrassed now, i just went out and looked at the motor and did that a pic of it tonight...not the greatest because of low light but it worked. I now see where my potential problem can be, it doesn't sit as low in the water as i first thought. s2012-05-31 22.12.58.jpg

It looks about right. Have you checked the prop to see if it's spinning on the hub?

In what conditions does it do this?

^and is it running on both cylinders? 9.9 with a 14 ft. flat bottom, should run pretty fast. ????

When it does move it moves good... the biggest issue is getting it on plane..once that is achieved (which very very seldom)if at all.. im thinking maybe it could be that i am hitting some weeds every now and then. .. I am taking it out fishing tomorrow if weather is good and ill be back to let you all know and ill check to see if the hydrofoil helps at all. as far as both cylinders, i assume they are both firing, it is running good (not missing) but havnt physically checked for spark.

If anything it looks like it could come up a bit yet and if certainly shouldn't wash out, don't know Mercs, does this have a shear pin that could have maybe broken and is lodged so it would make it kind of like a spun prop.

I had a similar boat with 9.5 Johnson and it would scoot sao there is definately some issue with this one, either the engine isn't running right or maybe over propped.

I woudl be tempted to run throught the engine, spark and compression check and change the lower oil to see what si going on down there, do a decarb and clean the carbs just to be certain it isn't an engine issue but that wouldn't explain the cavitation or prop slip, curious.

when it does act up, it looks like i can almost there is no water around the prop almost like there is a hole on the water and prop is in the middle of it. I will hopefully be taking it out today so i can take a look at it then if i does it again.

Hard to tell but that prop looks pretty worn. I would try a new one.

Re: hydrofoil or smart tabs

sorry its been a few days i had it out on the water and it does allot better job of getting up out of the water but does not plane out that well with 2 people on it, but it did improve it and didnt have any cavitation this time. i did notice it seemed to do better when i trimmed the motor up some, (one notch). I was running out of daylight so i didnt do any more messing with it
I was going to test out spark and forgot my spark tester so i was not able to do that, maybe ill get around to it tommorow

I also agree the prop does look like its worn a bit, ill take close up photes and put them up and see what you think. Funds are low right now being i am unemployed right now.
