Re: hydrofoil or trim tabs or both??

just a little update, the trim tabs are working great, I had to raise them some because of the 80lbs actuators, but they now work great, no difference in WOT RPMs, with faster plane and no difference in top speed. almost no difference with or with out the hydro foil, biggest difference is that the prop will cavitate some when fully trimmed up and in a turn with out the hydro foil..going to leave it on. generally happy with the boat, but still want to get me a 150 2 stroke for the extra speed and less weight. thanks for all of the very helpful input.

You are defeating the purpose of the tabs if you leave the foil on. It is not recommended by any of the tab companies to leave a foil on with the tabs installed. You could be causing the tabs to not operate to there full potential. You are also adding un-needed torque on the lower unit with the foil. Glad your happy with them though. Good luck

Well duh!!!

Do you seriously think any company would say anything positive about their major competitor?.....LOL

The man says he's happy. Leave it at that.

I run both as well so I know the benefit. If you haven't tried it, don't knock it.

Then you are also adding un-needed torque/stress on your outdrive. There is no need for a foil with trim tabs installed! None! But if its what makes you happy! lol

I don't think any company would really care other than it can cause an unsafe condition! But again, what ever makes you happy. ;)

Back to this again. Yes they can be used together.

The OP said exactly why they may work together fine in his application, without the foil it ventilates, this is the exact reason to use one. Without being able to see it and no further discussion of his testing, there is no way to know if it is as dialed in as possible, but it's working well for him

My finned outdrive is going on 28 years old. Not a crack yet. They must have made them better back then.....LOL.
