Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about buying a hydrofoil for my 1998 18' Monterey B/R. Its got a 4.3 mercruiser alpha 1 stern drive. what are your thoughts on this and can anybody recommend a good economical brand.
Thanks

BadMoJoe
Joe,
The issue of hydrofoils have been hashed around a lot on these boards. Lots of good reading. Just go to the top of this page and click on search. Then enter hydrofoil, or any brand name of foil.
Mr. Fitz
I have one on mine and like it. I can't remember the name of it but at cruise there is barely any of it in the water because of it's V shape. It helps quite a bit keeping the bow down and gets on plane quickly. I have heard of concerns with the added stress on the lower unit. I have not had a problem.
Love mine, its a Stingray. It really jacks the stern up during takeoff. I can plane much slower now than I could before adding it. It's a cheap reversable improvement in most cases.
