hey guys! back at it again with another baoting project.. looking at an 1989 sea ray 180 bow rider with the 135 hp out drive. I have a few questions about this boat.
1. I noticed the hydrolic steering. but the motor wont turn left or right when the motor is not running, is it supposed to turn only when running? and its in a neutral state when not running?
2. who makes the motor? mercury? all i see on the engine cover is sea ray. 135..
3. its the lower unit a decent drive or a junk one... I took the engine cover off and its really clean with no leaks and newer parts, (validates the sellers words of it being services last year before parking maybe? lol)
4. its a 2 stroke right? I noticed a small 2-3 gallon tank for oil. most likely and auto blend tank for the mixture?

over all the boat is in great shape and has almost not scratches on the hull or nicks or chips, looks like it was never even beached....just needs new vinyl... which is nothing for us... I just want to make sure there are things to look out for or check on...

thanks guys! hopefully you can shed some light on this sea ray!

post a pic

Mercury branded their outboards as SeaRay and Mercruiser branded their I/O's as SeaRay for Brunswick's SeaRay division for the 1988/1989 model years (failed marketing)

if its an outdrive, then its the 3.0 Mercruiser

GM makes the 3.0 and Mercruiser makes the outdrive

if you notice a small tank with an I/O, its for the power trim/tilt

if its an outboard, its a mercury 135 with a searay decal.

the picture you posted is of a boat, I was referring to the motor.

your having problems posting pics because the forum only takes pictures 400kb and smaller and your using your phone which is taking pictures at about 5-6 mb in size. re-size the pictures

as far as the boat goes, its 28 years old. brand no longer maters, only condition of the boat, quality of its service, and how it was stored.
