My battery is not charging while the motor is under power. I did the search and determined it to be my rectifier because I co\rossed the battery wire one time. I bought the Radio Shack part and came home to install it and lo & behold it is missin. I read where the old man said to toss it or the regulator I don't remember. This is a 1989 200 Mercury.

Re: I am missing my rectifier

You got a 40amp system and used the rectifier/regulator that bolted on the divider plate. Someone tried to make a CDI 194-8736 kit but didnt understand you must have the 4 wire stator...and tehe radio shack unit will not work on this engine.

2 yellow wires should be a 16 amp system it looks like someone thought if they split it to 2 regulator it would be a 40 amp. first test the regulators to see if they are good and if there is 1 thats OK wire it up properly and it should charge.

It that system has 2 yellow wires that come out from underneath the flywheel like it looks like in the photo then it is definitely a 16 amp system and came originally with a rectifier and a seperate regulator which can be replaced by a single regulator like the 2 someone has wired up to your engine.

No.. as in pm you have a 40 amp system...
test the regulators to see if they are good and if there is 1 thats OK wire it up properly and it should charge.
Dont do it as you have 40amp system...I can tell by the flywheel cover and block off plate on divider plate. You will need need to yest rectifiers and likely your going to find both bad because the way they where wired. Bite the bullet and buy a aftermarket replacement part #18-5824

Re: I am missing my rectifier

I got a regulator from the local boat mechanic today for $200.00. Installed it and I am putting 13.6volts at the battery at 1500 rpm. Thanks

Re: I am missing my rectifier

I am get sporadic tach and charging results from my new used regulator. Sometimes the tac works and the batteries charge and sometimes the tach does not work and the batteries do not charge. Does anyone have some more trouble shooting advice?
