I am now an owner of a 1988 Bayliner Cobra 2250 Cuddy with a 350. I have never owned a boat before in my life. I went out with a buddy on labor day weekend and just had to have one. I am sure I will be on here alot trying to figure this thing out.

Wish me luck!!

Congratulations and welcome aboard. You will find the answer to any question you could possibly think of here. Even non-boating one's!

Where in Illinois do you live?

Re: I am now a boat owner!!

hi.....welcome to iboats.!

that actually looks like a really nice boat. pics were al little small.....ok....they were tiny.....did i say tiny....i ment postage stamps of dna are bigger.....lol....resize to 640 x480.

boating is just a ton of fun.......in the destinations sections we have several iboaters in your area, even though you have a terrible hockey team, that beats us every year....the canadian iboaters will still accept you.

a 22 liner is one of the boats that actually changed the course of the way boats were asthectialy designed....lol.....and structurally.

enjoy your boat....have it winterized asap......take a safe boating course this winter......and read here......read read read. it will save you a world of hurt.

cheers

Congrats. Nice postage stamp sized boat! LMBO2!!!

I too am a new boat owner. I am planning a maiden voyage this coming Tuesday. A few things to complete first, but it is almost ready to see water! I feel for you since your water will be freezing soon, won't it?

Yes it will be freezing soon. But spring will be here before you know it.

I only got to take it out once.

Yeah I need to get bigger pics. But it is a really clean boat and it cost me less than three grand. Now all I have to do is figure out the shifting and the electronic ignition, but winterizing it is the main objective tomorrow

what do you mean shifting?......

the part that hangs in the water (the drive) does it say OMC....or volvo or merc?

Re: I am now a boat owner!!

its an omc outdrive.

when i bought it, it had a pertronix electronic ignition on it already. It fired up just fine but when i took it out it wouldn't shift out of gear without turning it off. So my father in law and me took the outdrive off and oiled the shift cable and tried to readjust them. well i think we did more harm than good. After we adjusted them we couldn't get any spark. When we switched out the distributor for a points type it fires right up everytime. So the more and more i read on here im thinking the esa is the problem because when i manually trip the interrupter switch the engine doesn't rev down. but thats the problems im haveing

Re: I am now a boat owner!!

ok bud......

first of all......i love your boat. i would be more than happy with that.

now.....with problems with the drive........if you want us to help you, (we would be more than happy to help) we need more info on the drive.

do you know if its a cobra? or is it an electric shift......
i am not an omc guy (mannn there are guys here that really know those drives inside an out ) !

so we need more detail's. the oms'c are obsolete....they don't make them any more and the parts are hard to find.

but unless there is a major problem......the iboats team will have you running in no time. !

i already have two people in mind with a possible drive, (depending on what you have).

some parts....

but if you are running cobra.......SEI sells on alpha conversion kit for them.

lets see you try to dig up electric shift parts.....

(be it known......this is in fun not a challenge)

Re: I am now a boat owner!!

Thanks me too!!

I wish it was spring already.

Just for curisosity do you know of a way to cool the cabin during the summer that wont cost a bunch of money and doesn't need shore power?

Thanks I am still trying to figure out how to put better pictures up.

Re: I am now a boat owner!!

for pics.....i upload to a photo hosting site called photo bucket......then....i resize to 640 x 480 (i actually use it as my deflaut) and then copy the img tag, and just paste it in the reply....pics look like this.

068.jpg

as far as cooling the cabin...

all cabins re usually hot......sauna hot depending on the color of the boat.
..the only cheap way i know of....is to build a cooling unit your self....

one quick idea, is to get a heater core/fan unit and run ice water thru it.....

but most people run a/c units.....that is usually a genny and a few thru hull fittings.
