Re: i challenge PW & BS to a debate

We can quibble for months now after the fact, but, terrorists have demonstrated a will and ability to strike us, and the time for action is past due. If one of these wmd devices goes off in some western city, what we need to do and what we have needed to do will become immediately clear to all. That action will not be a covert police action, but an aggressive military intervention anywhere and everywhere. imho.

Why is everyone compared to Hitler? Is he the apex? The pinnacle of evil and supreme control, perhaps? I've heard Sadaam being compared to Hitler, heard G.W. being compared to Hitler... I myself, in a state of agitated delusion, may have even offered a comparison to Hitler and someone on this board, at one time :D After some careful consideration, I've come to the conclusion that the only person like Hitler, was Hitler.

Now the CIA is investigating the Defense Department's pre-invasion intelligence that said Saddam had WMDs. This should be interesting.

That is indeed interesting Blacksmoke and I will be tuned in.

The terrorist nuke scenario has been speculated on for year sand years, and we see it now as a reality unfolding. You must think BS and PLY that my perception is on the hysterical side. Is that correct? What do you think we should do if a wmd is used in one of our cities. Would that event change your perspective?

Well, for one I would not remove the ban in this country on studying and developing the small nukes, as congress just did. One the technology is available for making a "suitcase" sized nuke, it will get out somehow. We have no reason to develop and deploy these small nukes--It goes against all principles of the MAD deterrent, as the only reason to develop these is to use them, and I see no circumstance where this country would be justified in using one.

That being said, we have already seen so-called wmd used in this country and elsewhere. The anthrax case comes to mind, and there was a Serin attack in a Japanese subway, I believe, for example. These are indeed very troubling.

What I don't see was the connect between Iraq and this situation. There are lots of countries that are known to have wmd, and many that have them under less than stellar security. Russia comes to mind.

What we need is to work together with all countries of the world as much as possible to form an alliance to protect these stores of weapons, and destroy them where possible, and secure them properly in any event. Every country is at risk from these terrorists, and every country should want to participate.

Angering the entire Muslim world with attacking Iraq, and establishing a (to them) threatening military presence in the middle of the Muslim region did not further the cause of fighting terrorism, in my view. In addition, we also lost ground from some of our allies, including France, Germany, and Russia, and that simply cannot help us in this cause.

Now had there been a good reason for the war in Iraq, fine. There is certainly some troubling information out there on this, however.

SCO, No, I don't think your concerns are hysterical at all. I think this stuff poses a real threat, and its use would not change my perspective. I wish we had found WMDs in Iraq, so the invasion would have been justified. Now, I'm concerned the militant Islamic world has even more fuel for their fire - and the odds of WMD use have grown. I recently read one of the administration's reasons for invading Iraq was to get our forces out of Saudi Arabia (no Saddam, no need to defend SA), since our presence there incites militant terrorism. Irregardless, I worry we'll pay for using a deceptive argument for the invasion.

Agreed, we are in the gray area, attack now or avoid further inflammation. I think they are already inflamed beyond an acceptable level, and that going after them militarily and aggressively is our only viable option considering what they will likely be able to put together as time rolls on. I'll bet a key strategy is to solve the Palastinian/Israeli conflict, and I don't think that will be possible without a tremendous presence by the US. No scenario will work if that sore continues to fester. This whole deal is like watching Mt Vesuvius prior to Pompeii. What do the Pompeians do about it?

Moose, that's interesting. Look at the next 100 people you see on the street, give them unlimited power, and see if one of em will do some horrendous things. I wonder. Just stirring the pot a little. No one can do Hitler like Hitler, or can they???
