Re: I committed the unthinkable

Have to say Aspeck we compounded the "plug" error by trying to escape in dramatic fashion from the area with me wading out to fend the boat off and then supposed to do one smooth movement entry into the boat.....only I didn't quite manage it and ended up hanging onto the side of the boat yelling at the cox'n to kill the engine  Not a day I'll forget in a hurry, no matter how I try.
Teeth still grumping: now not getting done until next Tuesday due to infection so forgive my poor posting, but my, aren't opiates pleasant :D

Re: I committed the unthinkable

Seldom remove the plug, and if I do it goes back in directly after the bilge is drained. Sooooooooooo never in my boat ...........................But was helping a friend launch his ski boat(me in the boat him manning the trailer) when after the picture perfect launch I got this sinking feeling. :( Yep auto bilge kicks on and OH SHEET comes to mind. Plugs not in I have NO idea where it's at and owner of "slowly sinking" is nowhere in sight, disappeared into the black hole of a parking lot.  Gott'a act quick, motor to the shallows, jump in and do the "Little Dutch Boy" thing with my finger. About (seems like FOREVER later) five minuets later, owner comes strolling down to the dock and spies me doing the Dutch Boy thing and starts roaring with laughter. By this time the bilge pump has emptied the bilge of all the excess lake water and kicked off. Trailer tender gathers his composure enough to tell me the plug is in the aft port side cup holder, about 3 feet from my head. After securing the pug in place I motored to the dock and picked up the still giggling owner.

Don't you find it a bit disconcerting to find a plug when you're rummaging around looking for your bottle opener? If it wasn't so easy to peek at the bilge on my boat, I think keeping a spare in the glove box would encourage me to do a lot more swimming than I do! ;)

I like CN Spots' idea of keeping the plug on the keychain. Maybe one of those keychains that separates into two parts with the push of a button would be a good idea.

well, mine screws in from inside, and when running on the water acts as a bilge pump. Problem with that is when I go alone, it a little hard to reach from the drivers seat  :( :D

I can just picture it now... nobody at the helm, and the only thing visible is the captain's "stern" in the stern.
That would definately be the beginning of a SHT.

As for me, I haven't forgotten the plug yet. However I did chase the boat down the ramp waving like a madman for my dad to stop backing up  :D . He did stop in time, otherwise I would've joined the club.

Re: I committed the unthinkable

Thats something I have never done.
I can be forgetful at times. But I have always
had a practice of putting the plug back in as
soon as the water is drained "before" heading off
with the trailer in tow.
