Hi, Miloman.

I graze on sugar free jello and fruits like apples and plums. It helps.

Good luck. :)

Hi miloman, there's no greater reason to stay healthy and control your diabetes than to look around and realize what you lose by dying a minute earlier than you have to; you lose your wife, your kids, your grand children, and your life long retirement plans. They all need you to be there, so stay strong, avoid the foods you know you shouldn't eat and exercise regularly, that alone keeps the sugar level down. Stopping smoking in itself will add years to your life. Take it day by day, I do.

Re: I Did It I really Think I Did It Man

I gained 17pounds in one year of being smokless.
As of the first of the year, I resolved to lose, or at least curb the wieght gain. I have lost 4 pounds since the 1st.
All I have done, is cut out the junk. I quit eating ice cream, sweets, but everything else is fair-game!
I eat the same meals, but late night snakin has changed. I no longer eat two PBJ's right before bed. I eat celery, and lots of it. celery has very little food value, as does popcorn. I snack like mad still, but snack on those type of foods.
I don't need another major life-changing habit-breaker right now,and that's why I tried this first.It seems to be werkin,albeit, a bit slower than I would like.
at least the scale is going in the right direction
Good luck,Miloman!

I just read JB's post, and those are in my 'plan' also. Lots of apples and pears, oranges-- peaches would be nice if they were in season.
But fruit has lotsa fiber, and sure isn't going to end-up as fat.

goooooooood luck milo

and i like to eat (for breakfast) a packet of oatmeal/grits at least once a week. you know, the water coolers nowadays have red & blue handles - red=hot. remember to use a styrofoam cup or something, it burns your hand eating right out of the packet ;)
actually, i usually go on a binge - eating grits for a few days, then oatmeal, back/forth for about 10days. then i'm sick & tired of it, and eat a mcD's sausage biscuit with tomato for a few days. i have the probably false belief that if 'they' say it lowers cholesterol, then oats will be in the plan, at least part time for now. ;)

Hot air popped popcorn and pretzels, if your diet lets you have the salt. Fat free and low calorie.

Hey milo, I answered your e-mail.
Glad to hear your doing good and I too, think it's going to work. Never thought I could quit cold turkey after 30+ years of them, but I have and I don't feel to bad, just a little jitter in the nerves department but that is getting better by each passing day.
I am also in the process of losing weight and I am on the Adkins diet and thats not bad either.
No taters, bread etc but it's working.
Just watch the foods you eat and don't let the sugar get out of control.
"Hang in there, we're rooting for ya, we're all in this together."
I think I have heard that somewhere before. :D

Bad idea Sloopy not enough sugar can be as bad or worse on a diabetic as too much. I would suggest you check with your doctor for an approved diet including things such as snack foods. Keep in mind the #1 rule with diabetes a little is not bad but a lot can kill you.

there ya go - remember that repulsion to the smell. any trigger of your senses that stands out - remember it. it will help you remember what it stands for, then the reasons why it is not a part of your life now.

Not only that milo, but take a paper towel and wet it and wipe the dash of your car or the curtains at your house and look at the yellow stain you get.
That is nicotine and it is in your body also. YUK

To help with the weight loss and keep you healthy as well, do a bit of walking, nothing strenuous, just 20 minutes or so, 4 times a week, the aim being to get the heart rate a bit faster, boosting the metabolism rate. And drink about 6 -8 glasses of water per day. These two helped me along when I lost 45 lbs over a 4 month period.

The walking also helps to keep the mind of smoking.
;)
