I've had my boat for 5 years and I'll tell ya.....even now, despite my best efforts, if I'm launching/loading solo.....something retarded is going to occur.

Re: I don't get it...

what happened axeslinger--you created a few rants and raves but where did it stem from? i always tell people if i was in a hurry i would have left home sooner and then help out:D

It didn't happen with the boat. It happened with this forum. There have been some near-rants made toward people who are less-than-perfect with their launch and retrieval. It has been at least implied, if not stated outright, that such people are stupid. Perhaps, being inexperienced myself, I unnecessarily took umbrage at such remarks and overreacted. If I have offended anyone, I apologize for the offense. I will not continue further with this because I expect that the probability I will be banned is high. I prefer that that not happen.

I wish I could.

I'm already taking this afternoon off to pick up the new boat and go to a DRs appointment. I wont have time to do anything with the boat until we take it out Saturday morning. I'm not worried though, I've owned and launched enough boats and the ramp we go to is really nice and easy to use... Plus I'm not the type to refuse help or swear at my boat when its not going perfectly... ;) I'm only a little worried that it might not be as easy to get back on the trailer as other boats I've owned.

We take the time to properly prepare in the staging lanes for a quick launch and if everything doesnt go as planned I just hope the next guy in line is considerate enough to not start yelling at us... In my experience most people are pretty decent when it comes to boating. We're all there for the same reason...

Inexperience is fine - we were all there at one time. Inconsideration for fellow ramp users is a whole other ball of wax.

On a side note, if you ARE inexperienced, take the time to learn how to back up a trailer properly. Find an empty parking lot or fairground field and practice. The only way to get better at it is to do it over and over. It's a good skill to have and will make you look like a pro next time you're at the ramp. Inexperience can only be an excuse for so long before it evolves into indifference...

I really don't get it......

I must have missed something there. I can?t see a problem with the original post.

But then again...

One should probably not listen to me? I have less than 200 posts.:D:D:D

axesligner -- your comments are welcome. Part of the point of this place is just to post observations. I think people (me included) were trying to give examples of when we might have expressed contempt for someone who is not launching well or properly.

Of course, it is possible you just ran across a couple of inconsiderate people. The probably exist but are certainly in the minority around here.

As for being banned, your comments don't even twitch the Watch Out meter, IMHO. Post away! :)

No problem with newbies. I am less annoyed by slowpokes with the nice boats than those with the junkers or those with clearly unsafe trailers or equipment. Not politically correct but true. The ramp preppers who didn't get ready in line at all..don't even remove the cover, the dock hogs and my new favorite the cars without trailers parked in the precious few trailer only spots.

Re: I don't get it...

What many people need to understand is that there are "less fortunate" people out there that have not been raised around boats. I was backing in trailers since I was 12 (don't tell the sheriff). I did all aspects of boating at that age: launching, retrieving, driving on the trailer, anchoring, etc. If someone does not understand something, hey, you gotta learn some time. Nobody is born knowing how to do everything, I still have not learned rocket science, but almost there:D. As long as you offer help and pointers to the inexperienced, and they comply, it makes the world a better place.

The thing that bothers me is when someone swears they are doing it right, and get aggressive when you offer help. In all aspects of life, no matter how good or bad I am at something, I am always willing to listen to advice. If I am in line at the ramp, and not done loading the boat yet, I make sure I am out of the way and walk to the next guy in line's truck and tell him he can go around. My philosophy is, maybe if you start killing people with kindness, the world may go back to what it once was. The only thing that prevails now is idiocy and aggressiveness. That's why I love this site, it is a gathering of the few knowledgeable members of society out there.

As far as the cars parked in the few trailer spots, well, very simple solution. Pull your boat with a tow truck, disconnect boat trailer, and "kindly" place that car in a handicap spot. He should get a nice fine and learn better next time.
