Re: I feel better knowing this

What if they finally catch Osama and his cohorts, confiscate their cell phones (you know they have em')and pull the records to find out if anyone in the US has ever called any of the numbers? Wouldn't you wanna know if your neighbor buddy was calling in to them on a regular basis?
I would.

Hey why jump ole tx on this one, all I did was copy W quote and say I felt better. Obviously some of W backers do not feel the same and need to defend something. Gosh, remember I am a republican also.

However, how would one feel if they were bidding against Brown and Root on a big job knowing Sir Cheney had this info at his fingertips????

And the FISA court would certainly approve the request for that info.

As far as judges being 100 % perfect, of course they aren't. But the more people looking at a program, the more likely it is being used as it was intended to be used. It is not perfect, no doubt. Anything that has the input of people will never be perfect. That is precisely why we have separation of powers, where absolute power is not concentrated in one prson, or branch of the government.

Look at it this way, whether you think King George is good or evil, whatever power he can take all for himself now will transfer to the next president, Queen Hillary. Do you want her to have that same power???

It is only a matter of time before Haliburton will get a contract to monitor all domestic phone calls.
Not only will it be illegal. We the victims will have to pay for crimes committed against us in the name of freedom.
This is exactly the sort of stuff that would have made Reagan blow his stack!!

Reagan and daddy Bush both but some will defend W to the end. Notice his daddy has kind of hidden away of late.Poor Barbara and big George thought Neal was their only stupid child.

What we ALL seem to forget (thanks media) that calls were not recorded. Only the call TO numbers were recorded. The NSA was looking for number frequency OR, especially, numbers called to "known" terrorist types.

Get over it people. Your calls to your girlfriends are of NO interest to the government, YOU ARE NOT THAT IMPORTANT. That may be a shock to some of you.

Beside what some, on this board, think our government (USA) has one purpose and one purpose only. That purpose is to PROTECT the CITIZENS.

Beside what some think, health care is NOT a right.

If you are concerned about your privacy, WHY in the world do you want the government handling your PRIVATE (health care) issues????

That's Nonsensical. Your phone calls-taboo, your physical-OK????

Wow DJ. What a great point. I was wondering "where the heck is he going with health care" and then wham. I have not heard that before and it is an excellent question . . . Not one that I think needs to be asked to "catch" anybody being inconsistent, but more of a wake-up call.

KIZ is singing my tune too. For these guys (the entire Administration) to be behaving as badly as many have been suckered into believing that they are, they must then be truly evil. I mean sociopathic evil! Not just your run 'o the mill gang banger murderer evil, I mean world honkin' class evil. No wonder some of you are so concerned . . . I just don't see how you're gonna be able to enjoy your summer.

PW2, you make excellent points as well, but you need to read some Clancy . . . I want those phone numbers gone over with a fine tooth comb, and when they are done, I want them to do it again. My worry about Hillary is that she won't ;)

BTW, my perfect President would be Jack Ryan Sr., and then Jr. would probably be OK too. Somebody else needs to pull off this Father-Son deal

Re: I feel better knowing this

QC.

You guys scare me a fair bit. There are all sorts of reasons, mostly nefarious, for listening in to telephone calls. Richard Nixon taught us a few. Suspected criminal behavior is only one of those, and you can get a legitimate court order for those. It's the ones where you can't get a court order for that scare me.

BTW, aren't you the guys that insist that the gov't not be allowed to register guns, as you are afraid of what they will do with that info. Hey, if you don't plan to use the gun to commit a crime, what could possibly be the problem???

NOBODY IS LISTENING TO YOUR PHONE CALLS!!
The only thing they are recording is phone NUMBERS dialed out internationally.
Read DJ's 1st paragraph again, I think you missed it the first time around.

Re: I feel better knowing this

I was reacting mostly to those that say "Hey, listen all you want, I don't have anything to hide".

First of all, all we really know is what they *say* their doing, and not what they are actually doing.

Since if they were doing only what they said they were doing, and since they could easily get a FISA warrant for that, please explain to me why they insist on not getting a FISA warrant.

Re: I feel better knowing this

FWIW, I generally don't trust anybody about anything until I know it myself. With that said, I am just not paranoid enough to think there is a "vast right-wing conspiracy", or even a little one, hell bent to pull a fast one. I think that any erosion of our freedoms is a big concern, but I can't think of one freedom I have had infringed other than my peace of mind about our security, and that was taken by somebody else . . . Oh yeah, and I am really P.O.'d that I cannot tow my boat over Parker Dam anymore, I blame that on the same SOB's that took our collective peace of mind away.
