Re: I Found a Crack in My Seat

Oh, it's probably strong enough- but I'm thinking whoever engineered it somehow forgot about the G-forces caused when boats slam into waves...
;)

I think you just defined design miscalculation. :)

I think the new leg will take care of the design miscalc. Was the I-beam too small.?:faint2:

Re: I Found a Crack in My Seat

UPDATE:

I got the seat leg from iBoats this week and finished off the seat repair this morning . . .

Here is the leg installed . . . I had to shorten it by about 4" to fit under the cantilever base.

The leg is about 8" inboard of the seat boundary, so I am hoping it will not be a toe catcher . . .

Here is the leg in the 'up' position, which will be needed when I take the carpet out for cleaning, etc.

Maybe next Fall I might do a re-coat of the gelcoat in the 'mend' area, just to get a better color match. I'll see if it fades in any over the summer. . .

On to the next project in preparation for boat launching (soon).

I hope the crack was not due to flexing of the whole boat structure!
