Yep, it has a safety switch. That's why it wouldn't start again. Tested it a little bit ago.

Worked on it tonight, found a few interesting things. The volt gauge shows only about 10-11 volts, and the battery cable post down on the starter solenoid was loose. I could move the positive battery cable around. The nut was loose, too. No lock washer on it. The connections weren't white with corrosion, but they weren't great looking, either. I sanded them clean and put things back together snugly with a stainless lock washer.

That may have been it, but I looked around the circuit and it looks like things have had time to corrode enough that a close inspection is the only way to see it. I guess I was expecting it would've been more noticeable. So, since the weekend's weather is going to SUCK (50 for the high on Saturday!?), I'm going to pull the whole start/run circuit apart and clean everything up.

I bought a new ignition switch, too but it didn't fit (not long enough). The connections on the factory one are loose, though. Nothing but a crimp connector, no screws holding them on and they're all wiggly.

Going out this evening to buy an auto-range meter. My Dad took his nice Fluke back (I was hoping he'd forget I had it).
