Yep, after all my griping I was actually given a '73 25 hp electric start (model 25353) when down in Florida last week. It's sat for awhile but spins and has compression. It's a long shaft and needs a prop.

It appears that it's the same 22 cube model as the 18's which is great.

The LU also looks the same as the 18's. Does anyone know this to be true? Can I swap them? Are the props the same? That'd be great if so.

And how the heck do those coils work on the outside? Huh? eeuuiieee... It's too new for me!

Free is great.
Find out all you can from here on which parts are compatable.
http://epc.brp.com

It is amazing what you will learn.
Like what parts can turn a 20 hp into a 30 hp ect.

Good luck

The only problem with that site as it starts in 1968... Had to compare to earlier engines... But nevertheless, good for modern engines.

Steve, that's a neat motor you have. I've never seen one with that particular cowl sticker on it! Tell me how the power is when you get it running. I want to see if it's really all that! It's always neat to get a motor for free, it makes it that much more special.....congrats.

Congrats. I'd love to have that old girl. That lower will fit 18 hp motors back to at least 1960.

Re: I got my first free engine!

Talk about FREE, I inherited a 48 Johnson 2.5 from my dad, Was given a 56' Champion 16.5 that I have running like a raped ape in a jungle fire, and I bought a boat with a 63' Johnson 10 hp and sold the boat for $250 more than I paid for it so I was paid to take that one. (now restored) Then I was given a 72' Johnson 25 E that was in a fire, (minor damage and now restored) Lately I was given a 46' Champion 4.2 just like my dad had when I was in 4th grade. I think this one went in the lake and was put away wet. Am working on this one now.

HA HA!:D
ME TOO!!!

I'm slipping the word out that I like old junky motors--like old 50's johnson or evinrude crap. You know--those old antiquated pieces of polluting junk (one of my favorite quotes):)....
I'm even thinking of putting an ad in the paper and see if I get some bites. You never know when someone is wanting to clear out their garage of some old worn out ducktwins or bigtwins that are taking up too much space. By the way, Hightrim, I wish I lived near you so I could partake in the old OMC bonanza you danged Canadians have! It looks like Michigan and Wisconsin is stacked with old goodies, too. I like WBeaton and TMcClavy's dual outboard idea. I wish I had a nice old boat to put a blue '53 evinrude and a green '53 johnson on. It would look goofy to most but I like 'em.
Enough ranting,

Re: I got my first free engine!

JBJ, I have an ad in my local online sell/buy stuff and it works great. I get folks emailing all the time with junk or just asking questions or looking to buy or sell. It also gets you linked up with the others that do the same and that helps a lot I find.

Here's my local ad:

usedottawa.com/classified-ad/3473111&category=power-boats

I posted it last July and just renew it every month. I'm surprised how many folks still see it way down there at the bottom.
