I mentioned sometime last year that I'd like to have a new watch. Something a little nicer than my Timex. I am particularly fond of the analog chronograph watches. Well after doing a little research I learned that above a nice Timex, prices really jump up. I really liked the Tag Heuer Carrera chrono, but 3 grand for a watch is a bit out of my league (and if it wasn't I still don't know if I could drop that kind of cheese on a watch). Anyway, she ordered this one for me yesterday. It should be in one day this week. She did NOT pay list for it either.:) I looked at one in a jewelry store and it felt pretty hefty (in a good way). She got me the stainless model but I could have had the titanium. I almost started a stainless -vs- titanium thread but I decided I liked the look and weight of the stainless better.

There's a better picture of it here

Any watch collectors here? I would be if I could afford it. I have all my old ones but their nothing special really.

I have always been under the impression that people who collect watches and/or clocks are really people who are hooked on precision. Just an idle thought, your reaction??

Your going to love it. I just bought my wife the Swiss Army watch with a mother of pearl case. I was tired of her wearing cheap watches and she admired it once.......

I have a Tag and I just got mine back from getting an official Tag service..... had it torn down cleaned and serviced. It came back pressure tested and with a warranty.

The Swiss Army watch is very nice and very durable.

Wear it in good health! How's the wife doing now?

Re: I guess she still likes me.

Timex, or Casio use to be fine for me but ever sense I got tendinitis in my left wrist and couldn't stand wearing a watch on my left side and couldn't get use to wearing it on the right so I quit wearing a watch all together. That's is where a cell phone comes in handy, I flip it open and check the time. My last job (chicken plant) wouldn't allow a wrist watch (even though some people still wore them), I alway wore my necklace watch on the job couldn't wear the cell phone either.

I gave my brother a pocket watch for his work use, I bought it from an X manager of mine for $20. My brother also worked and still works in a food processing type of plant where they wouldn't allow wrist watches. Come to find out, the pocket watch I gave him is worth about $500 give or take , and has to be sent off to be worked on to New York I believe or was it over seas. It really is a nice pocket watch and it has some nice designs on it. Needless to say he never used the watch at his job, it stays in his house and is displayed as a conversation piece.

Take care of that watch, and I hope you enjoy it.

I am fascinated by machines in general. An analog watch is a very interesting little machine. A watch with a chronograph (stopwatch) is a lot more complicated to make so I guess I appreciate those more. Victorinox makes an automatic one that looks like mine ($1000 more though). It's got a clear caseback so you can see the rotor inside. The Tag Heuer I mentioned eariler is the same way plus it's tachymeter scale has more graduations.

Yea I can't wait for it to get here. Which Tag do you have?

She's 100% recovered and feels so much better now. Her recovery was very quick. She's got one week left before school starts and she goes back to teaching. Thanks for asking.:)

Re: I guess she still likes me.

As much as I love machinery of any kind, I never got fascinated with timepieces.

On his 40th birthday I passed on to my son my great grandfather's gold retirement watch (50 years on the same job). It is a Hamilton 19 jewel movement in an 18kt Tiffany case. The last jeweler who cleaned it for me offered me 10 Grand for it. My son 's jeweler appraised it for insurance purposes at 20 Grand.

Son lusts for a Rolex model. . . God, or something like that. . .dang thing costs about 3 times what my first house cost.

I appreciate a fine time piece. I have a Seiko I bought over 20 years ago. Classic looking watch, Day, Date, and Time only, still keeps excellent time today. I always fancied the looks of a Rolex................in fact I bought myself on when I was in NY City,................Great price from some guy off the street................:D:D

Re: I guess she still likes me.

After my dad's passing in 1981, I wore his gold/stainless Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust until my son gave me a Rolex 18K one for Christmas '06. My dad's then went back to the factory for CLA, new crystal, and waterproofing. THAT cost $1000, but Rolex rocks.
