So I went to take my boat out for the first time. I have bad luck with cars and I figured I would have my boat checked out and have any repairs done before the first run. I spent $700 on maintenance and other things and as of the 19th the boat was running perfect. My wife, father and I got up early yesterday, loaded up and left to go to the lake. We get there, prep and back the boat into the water, it wont start. We assume the battery is almost dead as the only thing that could get power was the blower. I run home and get the battery my dad uses in his boat, still nothing. WTF, I am so upset, I have been looking forward to take this out since we bought it in February. Now I have to spend time with the electrical tester and see where the issue is. I hope its just the ignition switch since the blower/bilge/trim work okay. :(

You have an '87 Glassport hugh! I have not seen to many others out there with the Glassports. I own a '88 19' cuddy. Mine doesn't have a teather/kill switch on it, but just wanted to make sure you check that, if you do have one. I borrowed a buddy's boat a few years ago and couldn't get it started because the kill switch came off. I felt like a complete jack-azz, but was happy that was the only problem. Just a thought...

GOTCHA!
I wish it was that simple too.... Best of luck buddy!

My wife did have trouble trying to start ours the other day! I thought it was the starter at first. After asking her to let me try, I realized that she didn't have it in nuetral. She was giving her gas, but didn't push the button in all the way befor pushing the handle forward. In return, NO STARTEY...

Please post up what the problem was after you figure it out.

You might have a bad starter switch, solenoid, or starter or just a corroded or loose connection. Check all the connections at the starter switch and from the battery to the solenoid and starter. If you know how to use it, a test light should help you narrow down the problem.

How mechanical are you? If not so much, you might want to talk to the people to whom you paid the $700.

start with the battery connections. They are mysterious. They will run an accessory and not turn over a starter. PLiers tight on the wing nuts!

So I get power at the solenoid when the switch is on, but no power when its turned to start? I am assuming its the switch.

Good luck!
Did you try to just by-pass it with a screwdriver?
