Went back and read your post and I'm still having trouble figuring out what you're describing.

"but surely shell be revving but the motion of the ocean slows down"

This almost sounds like you're describing a spun hub. Does it rev to reasonable RPMs w/o miss and just not go anywhere?

This sounds a lot like the problem I am having (albiet with a completely different motor). Let me see if I am reading your symptoms correctly:

You are cruising for a while at full throttle but after some time you notice the RPMs cut back and your boat speed slows even though you are still at WOT.

If this is the case, does the motor ever try to jump up in RPMs for a split second?

This is my problem as well. I've changed everything 'fuel' related and validated all the 'spark' related items and still have the problem.

You should see if this has anything to do with temperature. I have searched the threads and found that some of the powerpacks are failing as the temperature rises. I'm still looking for confirmation that this is the problem, but its worth the study.

Sorry iwombat i did try rectify my quote in a later post. The revs do cut back as well. again sorry , most of my post has been a bit of a stuff up!

Hacker: EXACTLY! ,

Temp may be the case however the water pump and flow are in top condition, replaced pump and seviced as well. but I guess thats not to say the pack could be a little old and not able to take heat.

Once again though mate that would leave me with the same thoughts as earlier
Coils? Power pack? Or the point things under the fly wheel?
It has been confirmed she is a 77 model not a 74 Sorry
DAVID
have you inspected your points? Dont have any ?
are they set correctly?
are the contact surfaces smooth or bumpy and burnt looking?
are there any cracks in the coils? Cant tell
are any of the magnets in the flywheel loose or missing? No
do all of the wires look like they are connected good with no corrosion? All good
do the wires look crystalized(burnt or dark in color with corrosion at contact)?
NO
This motor is really starting to ##$% me, but when she was running she is sweet:)
