I have a mercury 1150, i am having a problem with the starter when i crank it with out the spark plugs it spins like a bat. when i put the spark plugs in it barley even spins. also i am not getting any spark. systemoverload@comcast.net

Check entire starter electrical circut for bad cables, connections, corrosion, weak battery, worn out starter.

i took the starter and they had said it was fried

Jimmbo's advise is still good. I had a bad battery cable on my Merc. It had corroded until only about 3 strands were left. The corroded area was under the insulation, so it was hard to spot!
