Re: I hit a deer.

Only one solution for this problem.
Fit your vehicle with a set of Roo Bars (known to some as Bull Bars), not those stupid nudge bars, but the full size ones from wing to wing. They work an absolute treat.
Over here, your 4x4 ain't a 4x4 unless it has a set, :D plus if you live out of town, best to have them on your car too. Buggxrs up the Air bags tho.
The Kangaroos are a problem here. They don't run out in front of you, they bounce, and when they are on their up bounce, they are dead in line with your window, and believe me, the last thing you want is an angry Roo inside the car with you.
Took my little chap to a Scout Camp tonight, and just missed a small Roo, about 5' tall to the head.
The other fun thing about Roo's is, it is always the 2nd one you hit.
Cheers
Phillip

Just a little thing on what dectible applies Comprehensive Dec is for acts of god and hitting animals. and Collission is for just that collissions IE

Hitting a deer = comp
Swerving to miss and deer and hitting the ditch =
Coll

Hail =comp
flood= comp
Hitting other car = collission

I sell Insurance in the state of Wisconsin and that is true for all of the surrounding States

Re: I hit a deer.

For those who turned in a claim & didn't have to pay deductable, what happened to your rates? Here in NC my experience is that most claims result in a rate increase that lasts years. Unless alot of damage, often best not to even turn in a claim.

I had a friend years ago that slid off road during icestorm & had something like $480 dollars damage. He had low deductable, so paid only like $180 or $280 for the repair, but his rates went up $300 for the next three years! And his broker didn't tell him that was what would happen when he called to inquire about how to handle the situation!

Plus I've heard horror stories about people calling to just INQUIRE about claims (not even turning them in) and being put on an insurance co. black list and having their policy cancelled (that might have been associated with homeowners insurance, not auto, though).

Not sure if things have changed here but I'd sure find out if I had a small accident before proceding with my insurance co. Just a heads up that you may want to do the same. Hopefully most states are better than NC in this respect.

Re: I hit a deer.

My almost-father-in-law and I were headed to lake Eufaula early on morning to catch some crappie. Three or four does ran out in front of us about 100 yards away while we were traveling about 50mph. They crossed the road, stopped and watched us approach. As we neared, one of them decided the grass was greener on the other side of the road and jumped in front of his truck. It hit the driver's side door, the boat, and the fender of the trailer if I remember correctly. He, being the country boy with tons of cousins in the area, called one of them and they came and harvested the deer.

We went on and limited out on crappie. He bragged all day long to anybody who would listen, "yeah, we got our limit of deer and crappie today".

It was a fun day no doubt.

Re: I hit a deer.

Lakelivin, the wife & I both had claims this year, mine was my fault, $5k to total my car & I don't know what the other guy's cost. Hers was an uninsured driver's fault. I expected a premium increase at last renewal, but it didn't happen. We been with Allstate for 15 years or more, so maybe they cut us some slack? Or maybe the other shoe is about to drop? hope not.

BTW, kiwi phil, an armadillo will jump just before you hit 'em, but they rarely get higher than the bumper!

A coon will also. $2486 damage to my car by ONE coon.

Heres a theoritcal question. If you shoot a deer out of season, without liscense,etc you must pay the state for the deers replacement cost since wilflife belongs to the state. Why doesn't the state have to pay for the damage whenever thier wildlife strikes our vehicle?

My uncle shot his two deer on opening weekend. Then hit one with his truck on Monday. And hit another one with the same truck on Thursday. He needs the whole front end replaced now.

Yep.
He called me Thurs pm, needed a ride home, as he could not drive without headlights. I got a nice hind quarter for helping him out. Ate some on Sunday.

Re: I hit a deer.

Only ever killed 2 deer with a vehicle, both were with the pick-up, both hit the plow assembly, both did $0 damage to the plow assembly or truck. Both tasted yummy! Guess I am just lucky sometimes!
