Just a guess but that looks like it would be easy to miss by the shop. If they didn't test the boat underway I doubt it would jump in the tank.

Update:
Got the pin, went for a test drive, went above 2000rpm and bam. Still feels like someone is rear ending the boat.......

There is a local guy who said he could replace the clutch dog and gears with used ones for $400.

I called the guy who sold it to me and left a message, and said I know I bought it as-is, but wanted to let him know since he has been pretty decent so far.

Either way, it is what it is :(

I wouldn't blame the seller, after all, you decided to buy it without a sea trial, like your title alludes to.

Good luck, not many used boats can be ready for the water without spending a few bucks.
