I have a 65hp Merc. serial # 4268800. I believe it is a 1975 with Type III ignition. My boat is the only one that has ran perfectly this year but I want to hook up my tach. I have a manual and have been reviewing all of your posts for hook up, but I want to be sure.
My wire identification looks more like type II than III. I do not have wires comming out of both sides of switch box only one side like type II. Switch box is Whte/Blck, Blck, Blue, White, Red, Brown, Green.
Whte/Blck, Blck, Blue to Distributor Assembly
Green to Coil Assembly
Whte, Red to Starter Solenoid.

I have yellow/red, yellow/red from rectifier.
Almost positive that brown comes from or goes to harness.

Please tell me again that I hook up the brown to the rectifier. Please ensure me my engine will not blow up. Can I, to be safe, hook a temporary jump wire from brown to rectifier, if so, what gauge wire?

I relize this is long winded but I have been reviewing for the past 3 weeks. I just want to be sure. I really hate when my motor does not look like the ones in the manual.

Thanking you in advance.
