So having never been a big rum drinker. I was at the local shop of flavors this weekend. There was a 750 of Capt Morgan black spiced rum.

I am normally a whiskey drinker but thought what the heck. gotta try new things now and then.

I was very surprised with it. Very enjoyable and smooth to drink. no mixers please just straight will be fine. Now I may have to explore some of the better rums.

My son gave me about a 1/3 of a bottle that a friend left at his house. That goes down way too smooth.

Not that I would expect you to be able to find it in dairyland (can't find it in my area my self), but if you are ever in the area of Puerto Rico, or have the ability to mail order adult beverages, a Puerto Rican rum called Ron Del Barrilito (rum from the little barrel) is my favorite. 2 star is good, 3 star is the best.

My rum pick for sipping is MYERS. :D

And I'm mainly a bourbon sipper.

Re: I may have found a new drink.

You just invalidated consideration of your opinion on good things to drink ;)

LOL Thanks a lot.

I do like many others as well. However for a normal whenever drink I don't spend a ton of money on hooch.

for redemption I do also like Tomatin Single malt scotch, Jameson, Tuilemore Dew, and Ellington's Canadian. Does that help my cause...................................or make it worse? LOL

If you tell me Maker's Mark I'm afraid I'll have to think the same of your opinion, especially after their little "our customers will never notice a little more water" scam. :D

For middle shelf American Bourbon, I'll take Jim over Jack, black label please.
Usually prefer Crown Royal over all else. Regular, Black, or reserve is all good. 3 Fingers neat, or over the rocks mixed with ginger ale.

Beam is Bourbon, JD is Tennessee Whiskey. Claremont, KY is Mecca as far as I'm concerned. :D

"All bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon".

To the OP; try Mount Gay rum (Barbados). It's sippable, just like a fine bourbon.

Re: I may have found a new drink.

I did enjoy Jim Beam Black as well as reg Beam.

Crown Royal -- absolutely agree

Wisers -- hmm another name to try

Mount Gay I have heard of never tried.

I'm fairly new to the liquor side, spent too many years drinking beer I guess. LOL

Re: I may have found a new drink.

If you like bourbon (and don't want to spend a fortune on top shelf stuff), try the 7 year old white label Beam. Looks just like regular Jim Beam, but has a red 7 on the label. For the money it's hard to beat, but you may have to search for it.

Another one I like is Eagle Rare, 10 year old small batch. Easier to find than the 7 year old Beam, very smooth too.

No, I'm not a drunk, but lived in Kentucky for about 6 years. When in Rome.....

Appleton Estate from Jamaica is pretty good too.

Rum's are just like Whiskey, you can buy the gut rot distilled yesterday (A.K.A most of Bacardi's offerings), but if you go for the aged stuff that's a little more expensive, you are usually rewarded with a nice sipping rum. If you end up with one you don't care for strait, I find that Goslings ginger beer seems to tame them down into a very acceptable adult beverage. ;)
