I might have to fish in a fiberglass boat

Hope you guys don't hold this against me, but it looks like I have a very good chance of getting invited to go fishing on a 30' gradywhite with twin 225 hp 4 stroke outboards. I bet this thing will ride like a dream, I hope so because 100+ miles in a boat in one day is going to be along ride.
My poor little starcraft is not tuna worthy at 30-50 miles off shore so I have stay in close to shore 10 sometimes 20 mile for salmon, halibut, and bass.
But I met a guy in town who is looking for tuna fishing partners and told him add me to the list, but I will have to visit with him first. He docks at the same port I do on the coast.
If I get a chance I plan to go for a ride in a fiberglass boat and hopefully catch a tuna or two.
Can't afford a big fiberglass boat so I will have to stick with the old starcraft no matter how much I like the 30' grady.

Still keeping an eye out for a cheap 24-25' starcraft to maybe restore in 4 or 5 years, put twin outboards on it and then I could venture out tuna fishing.

Hope everyone had a safe and wonderful ThanksGiving.

GradyWhite makes a heckuva boat. Have fun I'd go in a heartbeat.

When you're ready for a big Starcraft we'll look for you. Ther's a few out here in the Great Lakes.

If it will make you feel any better, I will try to come down and tag along on the boat. Always wanted to go tuna fishing.

There is nothing like tuna fishing to me. I like stand-up for big yellowfin myself. Once you hook on a 2 or 3 hundred pounder that continuosly sounds on you and reels off 400 yards at a time, you know your fishing. Make sure your back is in good shape, even with the right gear, they will wear you out! !

You may also come back with GW fever after being on that 30 footer. Just think, no worring about popping a rivet in the middle of the fight!:D

even small tuna kick butt. IMHO, tuna fight harder pound for pound than anything else in the water cept maybe yellowtail. you needn't be ashamed of fishing in "Other" boats........i went fishing last week with a friend on his 23' Trophy walkaround, and it sure was nice being in something that rode that dry on a choppy day

easy to love a GW, but being able to afford the mortgage is nice too.........

Re: I might have to fish in a fiberglass boat

I figured I would not be given a hard time. Still have to meet the captain this winter and talk things over, but he fishes out of the same port and asked if I was willing to be put on his list of crew members. I actually made contact with him because he was giving away his Black Lab since if wife developed allergies. I did not get the dog but from talking via e-mail we found out we like fishing. If I get to go I will post some pictures, won't be till summer. On the west coast most of the tuna I see brought in are all around 15-30lbs, heard of a guy loosing a big yellow fin this year.
I bet I will get GW fever, still can't afford one.
I would take my 21' Cheif 25-30 miles out if I converted her to twin honda outboards, but that not in the future either. I limit my self to 20 miles on a very nice day that equals 4 hrs on the kicker if the main merc i/o has trouble.
Hope all you guys are having a good winter.
