i need help bad

i have a 1965 johnson rdsl 27 outboard motor it will run fine when up out of the water but when i put the motor down it will run sluggish and die any idea what it can be

Do not run the engine out of the water or you will have a lot more problems, no water no cooling.
Sounds like you might have a carb problem, the float level changes when the engine is tilted.
Maybe time to over haul the carb.

First check your spark plugs, then look at cleaning and rebuilding the carb.

Theres no load on it when out of the water.
If its not firing on all cylinders you will get this problem.

Read the faq files on performing a spark test, don't try doing it with a sparkplug, you need a $12 spark tester set to 3/8th inch gap.
