this is the best book to service your oldy for 20$ you can download a copy of 400+ pages of the johnson manual cousin of evinrude.

covers magneto carbs GC timing etc..

just print locally and spring bound with plastic cover sheet front and back

it contains all the info you you need under the johnson RD series

I am not aware of any like the Johnson red book but they are close cousins anyway...cowl or color changes mostly functionnalities are pretty much the same..
part#s may differ being build in US and Canada FR on AOMCI would know :) or Racerone here.

parts listings are available for both

you should visit AOMCI ask a member forum if you haven't already :)

see 1951 EVinrude
twins...

What issue is there with orientation of the magplate.-----In my opinion you can look at it and say ---" this is how it fits "-----As it only fits one way !

It can fit 2 ways actually, the holes are offset in the brass piece.

are we tallking brass swivel ring under the mag plate screw holes not lining up...??

simple... take a sishkabob stick and push it down in a bolt hole till you feel the brass ring is lined up at least with 1 hole and the stick goes all the way down there.

The 3 other bolts holes may not be lined up ...being simply off-set so if all other 3 bolts holes are NOT lined up rotate the base ring and reinsert the wood pick till you see all the 3 other holes lined up.

Insert one bolt to secure the mag plate to the brass ring . Remove the pick and finish insering the 3 other bolts.

done !

I Have a couple of these motors.-----Worked on a lot of them.-------It can only fit one way.----The brass ring has nothing to do with how the magplate is installed.

agree yet if the brass plate threads are not lined up you can't screw down the 4 bolts .

The brass ring was used on many models for many years.------It should be obvious which screw holes line up to install that part.
