I have a 50 hp Johnson 1977 model pull rope start. Model# 50 RL77D. The motor runs perfect and I want to convert it froma rope start to electric start. Can I use the fly wheel and attach an electric starter. I don't really care if it charges the battery as I am using a 27 series Optima and it won't run down in a days use. I see flywheels on ebay all the time but don't know what to get. I know there's a way I can do this to make it work. Any body got some ideas to direct me in the right direction? I do know the electric starter will bolt up directly to where the rope starter mechinism is located now. The biggest issue I can see is the teeth on the flywheel currently look much smaller and have more teeth than the 8,9,10 tooth bendix I see on most starters. I figured I would have to swap flywheels out, but didn't know if that will affect the timing on the engine, stator operation, etc. Any ideas on what I can do is greatly appreciated . My email is EDIT Thanks again Glynn
