I/O owners...... motor UP or DOWN when in your slip ??

Well ? What do you do?

Every I/O at my dock is up. Doesn't make sense to me as only 1/8th of the motor is actually out of the water......

I've been told/read that leaving the I/O up is hard on the bellows etc. I've tried both ways, currently leaving the I/O down because I'm worried about a leak.

Leave it down...always. Unless there is something you aren't telling us like low tides!

good point about the bellow..it is extended when up but i would think it doesnt really matter much, except... the anode fin is not in the water..and with the water movement i would think your prop and other thing may be in danger of wearing due to electrolosis.. I dont know.. the anodes on the transom and the fin make a triangle field of protection..so maybe it is best to keep down so the anodes do what they are designed to do...just my guess

i keep mine (2) down, dont want the trim rams exposed same with trim tabs, all the way up

again dont want the rams exposed

If there's no chance of hitting bottom, the unit should be down. Leaving the unit down allows the drive bellows to remain in it's natural, relaxed position, without any stress. If left up, the bottom of the bellows is stretched which lessens the life of the bellows and increases the chance of failure (and sinking).

As stated above, leaving the unit down also retracts the trim rams, protecting them from exposure.

I agree on leaving it down to save the bellows. Very hard to change.

Your talking about when the boat is in the water.. leave the the stern drive down.

What about on the trailor? If I leave mine down on the trailor it will hit the ground unless I tilt the trailor way down in front and then the boat collects rain water. I'm kinda stuck

I trim mine down as much as possible once parked on the trailer. Obviously you can't get it all the way down, but I put a block of wood down and lower it down until it touches..once I got the bow up where I want it..this also prevents water getting trapped and freezing in the early spring/late fall.

While docked, I leave mine down. While sitting stationary on the trailer, I leave it down....easier on the bellows as others have mentioned.

Yep, I leave mine down nearly all the time. It's definitely down when I'm in the slip.

all the boats here are up. so I followed suit. They are all on lifts.
