I am a complete Newbie to powerboating. Could someone explain the difference between an inboard/outboard and a sterndrive? Are they one and the same?

To take things a step further: An INBOARD or V-drive has both the engine and transmission inside the boat. An INBOARD/OUTBOARD or STERNDRIVE has the engine inside of the boat and the transmission outside of the boat. And of course an OUTBOARD has both the engine and drive outside of the boat
