I think I may need to raise the motor.

If I raise the motor up an inch or so, the top of the transom won't be in contact the the transom clamp. I think I read that this is acceptable. What do you guys think? The aluminum plate is something I added, didn't need it the transom is solid as a rock, but the plate was lying around so I fit it in there. This is a 74 Glastron V173 and that is a 1978 Johnson 115...Thanks again. transom1.jpgtransom2.jpgtransom3.jpgtransom4.jpg

Thanks, So the inside top of the Trans clamp will be an inch above the top of the transom. This is ok?

That's fine. I've never had the bracket rest on the transom.

Go all the way up. It's a Glastron. They love elevated engine height.

How fast is your boat? If it is less than 50 mph, you probably don't want it much higher than 1 inch above the keel. If you go to high it can cause issues.

How high will mostly depend on propeller used. If alu, probably max 1", but stainless go max!!

Re: I think I may need to raise the motor.

It will be a couple of months before I get this old boat on the water. I still need all of the electrical, the gauges, I have to put carpet and seats in her. I have to rebuild the carbs and clean out the fuel tank. I could go on and on. The hull is good though, it is a project boat that I picked up off of craigs list. Two weeks after getting the boat I found this Sea Horse on craigs list to hang onto the back of it. Thanks for all of the help...

Motor raised as far as i can without drilling new holes. I think it should be good though. Opinions?View attachment 117846
Not sure I'd go all the way up right off the bat but I gotta admire your optomism. You'll find out soon enough if it's too high. I ran a 90 Evinrude 2 1/8" above the keel on my '71 V153 without major incident. Only problem I ever had was if the water and air were hot and I was really snotting on her it'd set off a high temp alarm.

You'll probably experience some 'blow out' coming out of the hole no matter what prop you run but that's easy to control. Keep an eye on the tach and feather the throttle 'til she hooks up. Then it's hammer time ...

Thanks, The file I used as a straight edge is about one inch up from the keel in that pic.

You should be just fine at that height. Worst problem you'll have is a faster boat ...?

i agree with v153, keep a close eye on the tach and temp, from an inch below, to an inch above , should make a noticable difference.
